Winter Month

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

It has been a mild winter this year, some days felt like spring and some days were very cold. It's snowing in the city while I'm writing this. Many things happened from mid February to mid March.

On February 18th, Sarah competed for National Showcase qualification in 4 categories and she got first place in all, WELL DONE SARAH!!!!

The 2023 National Showcase competition will take place July 31 - August 6, 2023, hosted by The Skating Club of Boston

Sarah will compete in these 4 categories:

  • Character Performance

  • Comedic Impressions

  • Interpretive

  • Mini Production Ensembles – Groups of four to eight skaters perform together with the option to use props and scenery.

Mini Production Ensembles - Sarah was Posh Spice in Spice Girls.

Interpretive - Sarah listened to the selected music for the first time an hour before she interpreted and choreographed her own dance. It was a very interesting process, all the skaters went into a room and listened to the music and let out to the rink one at the time without seeing how others performed.

Character Performance - Mrs. Doubtfire

Comedic Impressions

I was overwhelmed by the amount of work that went into making these mannequins for the Comedic Impressions program while performing a hand fell off but Sarah handled it well.

We went to KOLOMAN restaurant for the third time to celebrate my birthday on the 17th, it was Sarah's first time there. We couldn't go on my actual birthday (the 13th) because the restaurant was closed on Mondays so we went on Friday instead. My new favorite dishes were Grilled Trumpet Mushrooms olive oil crushed potatoes, watercress, sauce vierge and Roasted Duck Breast oranges, braised celtuce, crispy einkorn. Sarah got Lobster Burger k. u. k.kartoffel & kaviar and the mushroom dish. David had Schnitzel “Viennoise”potato salad, cucumber, lingonberries, sea buckthorn. It was amazing as always.

It was so beautiful in Bloomville this winter, I walked with Benjamin while David and Sarah went skiing. The walks were so peaceful and rejuvenating, fresh snow, frozen lake, crunchy ground while walking, cool fresh air, quiet.

We got a new addition to our family, Moose (5 months old kitten), formerly named McCoy.

I was nervous about how he would get along with Benjamin but he adjusted so well both in the city and upstate.

Sarah was in the variety show at the Cutting Room with professional dance group from PMT Dance. It was so much fun with comedy show from different old school comedians and a magic show. It felt back in time to the 80's.

PMT Dance posted Junior Company dances that we went to Queens for on their YouTube channel.

Last week Joelle came to NYC with two of her friends, Paige and Anika from Indiana and stayed with us for a week. They are juniors from BFA Musical Theatre at Ball State University and they came to help out with their school senior showcase. Next year will be their turn to perform in senior showcase at Joe's Pub, we can't wait to see her showcase next year.

David's cooking and some of my baking this past month.

Winter is almost over with daylight saving time changed this past Sunday, March 12th. I love when the day is getting longer and the weather is warmer. Spring is almost here!
