"Catskill Scenic Trail" used to be an old railroad track located in Delaware county, New York.
is a great trail for running, biking and walking. Since the COVID-19 lockdown started in mid March 2020 the trail becomes very popular among the locals.
From wikipedia.com:
The Catskill Scenic Trail is a multi-use rail trail along the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad right-of-way in rural Delaware County, New York. It runs approximately 19 miles (31 km) from Grand Gorge, New York to Bloomville, New York. The western portion of the trail runs along the West Branch of the Delaware River. The eastern portion of the trail has recently been extended approximately 7 miles (11 km) to Roxbury, New York to the south of Grand Gorge.[1]
The trail serves mainly bikers and hikers in the warmer months and snowmobilers and cross country skiers in the winter months. It is owned by the Delaware and Ulster Railroad tourist railroad via and maintained by the non-profit Catskill Revitalization Corporation.
“It's the best thing across from our house, we can just cross the road and walk through our neighbor's corn field and there it is. The peaceful trail for us to run for many miles all the way to Grand Gorge.”
David, Dawit and I just finished our 15 miles long run this past Sunday. It was very hard to get up in at 6:30 in the morning to run in a very unusually cold morning 34F. But we did it! 15.3 miles, 10:50 min/mile. Our dog, Benjamin didn't show any sign of slowing down. The weather was perfect after 20 minutes of running, cloudy, not too sunny and cool.
I am preparing myself for a virtual NYC marathon the end of October and still have to do 18 miles in 2 weeks and maybe 20 miles the week after.I already planned my route for running here in Bloomville and couldn't imagine the better place to do this race. It will be a slow run on rough surface not the smooth one like the road. It will be no cheering, no water stations but myself and my will to finish that 26.2 miles just for "my annual marathon running" It has been a tough year for training and no actual race going on for most part of the year. It would be my proof to say "Nothing can stop me from running NYC marathon even though it's only a virtual race.
David, Dawit and Benjamin were ahead of me.
